The Spence and Mathews Insurance Agency was founded in 1935 by Ralph Mathews. It was initially named the Ralph Mathews Insurance Agency. After serving in WWII, Ralph’s son, Phil, returned from the war to take over the reins of the Agency. It remained the Ralph Mathews Agency until the late 1950’s when Phil partnered with Paul Spence to form the Spence and Mathews Insurance Agency.

On August 31st, 2011, Brad Scott, a 25 year Spence & Mathews veteran, purchased the Agency from Northeast Bank Insurance Group. Brad is determined to continue the Spence & Mathews tradition, providing clients with high quality insurance products that adequately protect their assets while fitting within their budget.

During its more than 75 years of service to the southern Maine and New Hampshire region, the Agency has continued to grow, representing fourteen companies and providing home, auto and business insurance services to its clients. With our staff of knowledgeable and courteous professionals, Spence and Mathews has become one of the most respected independent agencies in the seacoast area.
